Supporting Women's Enterprise
As part of our work to support families we offer seed corn funding and training to two Widows and Orphans Community Groups.
Both groups are based in Oboch, the community served by Innis Primary School.
We've worked hard to establish how we can help these small co-operative groups to develop and grow as we know that by helping the women to start small individual or collective enterprises we can help to improve family incomes. Better incomes mean that the women are better able to feed their children, reducing sickness and malnutrition and supports them in sending their children to school more regularly.
The Jefna Group, above left, make and sell baskets, raise chickens to produce eggs for sale and make school uniform and other clothing to sell at local markets.
The SIATOK Widows and Orphans Group, bottom left, make bricks and operate a small holding. They have also moved into cake production thanks to our donation of a charcoal oven. A number of the women have also accessed small business training and set up their own small enterprises selling foodstuffs.
