Welcome to the website of Zest for Life
We are a small Charity based in North Shropshire that operates to support two schools in rural western Kenya; Innis Education Centre (Primary) and Miriu Secondary School.
Our main source of income is a sponsorship scheme whereby anyone can donate a minimum of £10 per month to enable a young person of very limited means to remain in full time education at Miriu Secondary School, Kenya. We currently support 120 students and have helped to support 3 former students into Higher Education.
-
Many of our sponsored students have no families as a result of HIV.
-
Many are from very poor families who struggle to keep their children in school.
All are in need of our help and support.
Our other fundraising tools include:
-
A specially named rose that you can purchase at any time (featured in our logo at the top of each page and and in FAQ)
-
Fundraising events such as barn dances where we can involve our own communities in helping to raise funds.
-
Specific campaigns for larger things that the schools need e.g. desks and concrete floors and to enable us to continue teacher and student exchange visits.
-
New for 2010 - Our Porridge Project, see News page, aims to give 400 Primary school children a morning meal before they come to school.
Our Charity has grown out of a Global Schools Partnership Project developed in 2005 by Thomas Adams School, Wem and Miriu Secondary School, Kenya and expanded when Buntingsdale Primary School, Market Drayton and Innis Education Centre joined to become part of a cluster of schools working together to develop curriculum links.
The Charity has close links to both Kenyan schools; part of our work involves the continuation of support for student and teacher exchange visits between the cluster schools . These exchange visits benefit all those who take part and amongst our four school communities help to develop understanding and foster friendship between our two cultures.
